Anita Padula
Where did you grow up and go to primary and secondary school?
I grew up in Victoria. Born in Melbourne and went to Rosebud Primary until I was 6. I remember Dad teaching my sisters and I to ride our jet skis on weekends at Safety Beach. Then we shifted to Mildura where I went to Irymple Primary School until I was 11 years old. I remember playing a lot of marbles at recess and (finally) being allowed to go to dance club in Mr D's classroom at lunchtimes when I reached Grade 6! That was such a big deal at the time! We moved to Bairnsdale in the middle of the school year in 1982 and I finished Grade 6 at Bairnsdale West. I was in Mrs Tatnell's class and she used to walk us down to the tennis club every week to play - I thought I was in the best grade ever! I went to Bairnsdale High School (that's what it was called in the 'olden days') and finished HSC in 1988.
Why Bairnsdale?
Dad was a PE teacher and liked the look of Bairnsdale on the map, the rivers, beaches, snow and bush - so much natural beauty. So that's why he applied for a job at Bairnsdale Technical School and we came here. We do live in a fantastic place.
How long have you been involved in education?
I remember studying teaching while my sons were in kindergarten and being super excited when I got my first teaching position at the same school our sons were at - Lucknow Primary in 2013. Since then I have taught at Wild Cherry Steiner School, Bairnsdale Secondary College, Lindenow Primary, and now at Bairnsdale Primary where I began in 2018. At 754 I have taught Multicultural Studies and now I am teaching Science. I love teaching as a Specialist Teacher because I get to teach all the students at school and work with all the teachers and staff.
What do you like to do with your spare time?
In my spare time I enjoy walking and talking with my husband, enjoying my Mum's awesome company, relaxing time with my family and friends, watching my sons play soccer, the movies (with a vanilla nutty choc top of course!), reading books and when the weather is warm I love to spend time stand up paddle boarding in the Mitchell River.
