The excellence in Teaching and Learning Priority of the Victorian Government gives teachers a deep knowledge of the Victorian Curriculum, key learning areas and skills to utilize high-impact strategies to improve student learning.
Effective teaching is the single biggest determinant of student improvement in the school. Teachers not only have a direct impact on student achievement but also student engagement and motivation for learning. What teachers do in the classroom and how they interact with students is vital.
Hence at 754, we insist on excellence in every way in every classroom.
Excellence in teaching and learning means teachers at 754:
Teachers maximize student learning when they create a classroom environment that is, supportive, well-structured and characterized by a clear focus on learning growth.
Great teachers are aware that their own learning journey is never complete. They actively seek feedback and collaborate with others in an effort to improve student outcomes.
At 754 we use specific tools to support our teaching and learning programs:
VCOP (Vocabulary, Connectors, Openers and Punctuation) and Big Write
This is a tool that we use to support our students in developing their writing skills.
CAFÉ’ (Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency and Expanded vocab)
The Literacy CAFE program provides teachers with a way to maximize student understanding of the four key components of successful reading through the use of the CAFE Menu.
Essential Assessments - Maths – This tool supports our teachers in developing a very specific, individual maths program for every child. Identifying their next point of need / learning in the different areas of maths, so that a personalised learning program can be established.
Spelling Mastery – supports the daily focus on spelling. All children in the school are grouped according to spelling skills and the next step in their spelling learning. These small groups then meet once per day for a 20 minute period to specifically focus on their spelling. The results are amazing!
Specialist Areas:
Every class will have specialist area subjects during the week:
Art also offers an extension program, where a select number of students spend time with our art teacher completing art projects around the school. Check out our “new” toilet doors – this was a product of the groups work in Term 4 last year.
PE is encouraging physical activity and fun outside, let’s get our children exercising and getting those heart rates elevated all through the fun of games and activity.
Our curriculum is deep, complex and designed to maximise the outcomes for your children. I would be happy to discuss any aspect of this work, at any time.
