Where did you grow up and attend primary and secondary school?
I was born and bred in Bairnsdale! I attended Bairnsdale Primary School (754) as a primary aged student and have very fond memories of my time at 754. I remember playing an orphan in 754’s production of Grab That Gold! The very first theatre production I ever performed in. I attended Nagle College and Gippsland Grammar as a secondary school student, finishing my VCE in 2011.
Why did you choose Bairnsdale as a work place? Or place to live?
Bairnsdale is, and always will be, my home. I grew up here and my family and friends live here. I am so excited to be teaching at 754 because I want to give back to the community I grew up in. I enjoyed my time as a student at 754 and I am honoured to be a part of the school as a member of staff. It’s a wonderful experience to work with teachers who taught me when I was in primary school!
How long have you been in education?
I have been teaching for five years, and I enjoy each and every day I work with students. Even though my official teaching career started 5 years ago, I was teaching long before that! As a kid I loved to play ‘teacher’, in fact some considered me to be ‘Miss Bossy’! I particularly loved to read books aloud to my ‘class’. While studying to become a teacher at Monash University in Churchill I was also part of a local youth theatre company as a vocal coach and assistant drama teacher, teaching 8-17 year olds to sing and act.
What do you like to do with your spare time?
In my spare time I enjoy performing. I take singing lessons every fortnight in Melbourne and I take weekly dance lessons. Each year I perform in the annual musical the local theatre company produces. If I’m not performing, I love watching performances, and will often travel to watch professional productions. I also enjoy spending time with my family or reading a book with a cup of tea!
